MISPLACED FRIENDSHIP
James 4:4
“Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
Forgive me, Lord, for the times when I choose the world over You. With all You have done for me, I cannot believe I am still tempted by the world. Yet I am. I think it relates to my insecurities. The times when I do not trust You are the times when someone else’s success or position in life has influence over my heart.
Recently, I have felt a need to be accepted by the world. Forgive me for leaning toward the artificial light of the world when I have the brilliance of Your glory in my heart. The trivial needs will pass, and I will be left with truth–Your truth. Lead me back to You, Lord. I do not want any part of me to flow against Your will…even my longings.
Thank you for this, Lyn. I share this prayer.
Firstly, let me say I totally agree with this verse and quote it often.
I believe the biggest ‘problem’ with this Scripture is the definition of “world” which I have seen change over the decades.
For instance, when I became a Christian in 1958, the movie theatre was ‘the synagogue of satan’ but within a few years, movies were brought into lounge rooms via the TV and movies were no longer considered “the world”.
It would seem that in today’s world, there is no longer a clear-cut line between wholesome and unwholesome activities, language, games, beliefs, attitudes or even morals and ethics. We see sinful behaviour excused . . . but GOD’S admonition still holds true.
We are “a new creation” and the “old things” should no longer hold attraction for us.
Amen! Love ya Sis!
