Are You Much Afraid?

“The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
and He will make me walk on my high hills.” Habakkuk 3:19 (NKJV)

I love the book, Hinds Feet in High Places by Hannah Hurnard.    I so identify with the main character, Much-Afraid. When facing past trials, I always fell prey to panic and submitted to my fears. If only I had trusted my mighty God to see me through each one BEFORE the fears started to overwhelm me!!

I am growing in my faith daily, and my trust in Him is much stronger now. Through every trial I have faced, He has equipped me to face it. Faithfully, He holds my hand as I overcome new obstacles, reassuring me of His faithfulness.

The character Much-Afraid goes on a difficult uphill journey to the High Places.  Believe me when I say the journey is difficult but really worth it in the end.  The Good Shepherd provides companions to guide her along the way and He appears whenever she cries out for His help.

Upon reaching her destination, Much-Afraid gets a wonderful new name. Her companions, “Sorrow” and “Suffering” also receive new names.  She is no longer lame and faith replaces her fear nature.

We are all on a journey of transformation.  What you were before rebirth is gone.  You are now a new creation!!  The refining process takes a lifetime, but the willing servant will always become that diamond.  God does not see us as lumps of coal.  He sees us as the jewels He fashioned us to be when He knit us together in our mother’s womb.

If you have not read this book…. Get it!! It is full of analogies and will meet you just where you are in life. It is a favorite book of mine and has given me a lot of comfort and instruction over the years.

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” Revelations 2:17 (NKJV)

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:1-2 (NKJV)
